Climate Independence Day

How to break free of the tyranny of climate risks

· Commentatry
Two hundred and forty-one years ago, a small group of visionary leaders declared their independence from the tyranny of foreign rule.
I didn't realize how personally risky this was for them until I realized that by signing their names to the document, they were naming themselves as committing treason and putting themselves and everything they held dear in mortal peril.

Today, we are again facing a tyranny that requires our bold response. We are shackled by our ignorance of financial climate impacts. How can we make investment decisions about how to respond to the potentially massive climate challenge we face without being able to measure, manage, or monitor climate resilience?

As a civilization, we owe it to ourselves, to our businesses, to those we serve, to understand and quantify how climate affects us and how we affect the climate.

Let's heed the call. Accept the challenge. Throw our best and brightest experts at it. Deploy our most advanced technology to understanding the specifics - the numbers, the finances, the actions we can take and the return on those actions.

Only then can we truly achieve climate independence.
